I can understand if the Paper Chase isn't your kind of band. I really do. John Congelton has a voice that puts some people off, and their schitzophrenic sound is far from the pop-punk easy listening that currently dominates rock charts. But do yourself a favor and listen to the second track ("We Know Where You Sleep") off their newest record, Now You Are One Of Us. It features both the most melodic sound and darkest lyrics of any Paper Chase song to date, and let's be honest: the sheer perfection of the song, along with its surface level twisted sexuality, make it downright sexy.

For those who have already have a seat on the Paper Chase bandwagon, not to worry. The entire album, a concept album at its finest, is fantasticly creepy, with their trademark sound of disjointed guitars, drums, strings, and piano colliding in an explosion of calculated genius and fury. And since one of the most satisfying and disturbing parts of listening to Now You Are One Of Us in full is experiencing the dark lyrical twists and turns, I'll refrain from posting large chucks of songs. But song titles like "What Until I Get My Hands On You," "It's Out There and It's Gonna Get You," and "We Will Make You One Of Us" give an appropriate outline of the story that unfolds before you.

The entire album, but expecially We Know Where You Sleep, is worth a listen. Just don't blame me for any nightmares that follow.
